Early Voting

Today at lunch time I went to vote early except the line was at least an hour long. I walked in behind a guy who I followed down the hall, to the right, into the gym, and back around to the front door (the line in the gym was as long as the line through the hallways). This guy told me he had been on Sunday, Monday, and now Tuesday at the same polling site and the line was at least that long everyday. I'll try again next week, but voting on election day seems like it might be pretty reasonable. I'll keep you posted.

I would think the idea behind early voting is to alleviate the long lines on Election Day. But everybody I know who's gone to vote early has said that the lines are superlong and they've had to wait 2-3 hours. Meanwhile, whenever I've shown up at my polling place about an hour before it closes on Election Day, I've never had to wait in line and I'm done in 5 minutes. That may just mean that my polling place is less populated than other places, but as long as that's the case, early voting doesn't make sense to me.

Early voting has always been quick for me before this year. I went back 3 times and found the same type of lines each time. Maria went and stood in one of these long lines. It took her an hour to vote. According to the News and Record, 148,000 people voted early and they expect 115,000 more to turn out on election day. W/ fewer people and 50 times as many polling places open, I don't expect to have to wait longer than an hour.
